blog-4Hello budget pal friends! How have you been? I hope you are well because I am swell! Why? Well, I have been counting and…I just realized that this is already my 21st blog! OMG! 21st! I feel legit. 🙂

For this week, to those of you who are interested, I want to talk about how you can start your own blog.

I will tell you the step by step process. There are only five don’t worry. And if I can do it, of course, you can do it too! Without any further adieu, these are the steps.

1.) Topic

The first one is your topic. The great thing about blogging is that you can blog about almost anything. In my case, finance has always been my favorite topic because we use it in our daily lives and truth be told, if we manage our money right, we’ll have security, peace of mind, and less stress, financially speaking. You can talk about your fashion, your make up, your studies, your struggles, your personal experiences, your travel, and you can even talk about your neighbors!

Blogging has become an outlet for me in a way. It’s like a diary. Plus, if I can spread some saving and getting out of debt tips to people, why not? Right?

2.) Domain Name

After having the perfect idea for a topic, you are now ready to register your own domain name. What is a domain name? It is a fancy term for the name of your website. In my case, it is You can register,, or anything. As a piece of advice, you gotta make it catchy and of course, related to your content.

For domain name registration, I recommend Go Daddy. Go to their website and check if the domain name that you want is already registered or not. They usually offer 99 cents registration on the first year and then around $10-$20 yearly renewal. Not bad huh.

3.) Hosting Site

Now that you’ve secured your own website name, you are now ready to register your domain name into a hosting site. What is a hosting site and why do you need it? Hosting site will make your website known to the world. Everyone will be able to see what you’re blogging about. If you type in your website on yahoo or google search boxes, your website will come up on the results. Think of it as your P.R. (Press Relations).

I do my hosting with Host Gator. They offer as low as $3.96 for the first month and then around $10 (depending on your plan) after that. Still not bad. Oh and before I forget, Host Gator is open 24/7. I chat with them whenever I have questions and they are very helpful.

FYI: I spend a total of $10 every month on my blog. And a domain name renewal fee of $15 once a year.

4.) WordPress (and Theme)

The fourth step in creating your own blog is to install the wordpress into your hosting account. It’s FREE! WordPress is the software that you use to create your website. You will also need a theme for your wordpress. Find a theme that suits your needs. This is where you write, delete, edit, and post your blogs. There are gazillions of themes out there. Paid or free. Of course, I opted for the free theme. I am using the Twenty Twelve theme. I like it because it is simple and it’s FREE!

After setting up steps 1-4,

5.) Start Bloggin’!

Tell the world what you need to tell them.

Of course, the success of a blog depends on how much work you put into it. The more passion you have into whatever you’re writing, the better. The more often you post, the better. As a last piece of advice, to broaden the arsenal of your writing skills, you need to read, read, and read some more. Keep your writing current and relatable. Good luck!
